Problem Description

Your Wyze Cam Pan v2 won't pan, tilt, or track motion. Check if Pan Scan is enabled in the Wyze app — go to the camera live view, tap the gear icon, and look for Pan Scan under Motor Controls. Pan Scan lets you set waypoints the camera rotates between. Motion Tracking is a separate setting that makes the camera follow moving objects. Both must be individually enabled.

Why This Happens in Real Homes

If a Pan v2 won't move at all, check the two things that command movement before suspecting the motor: Pan Scan (the patrol feature) and Motion Tracking are separate toggles, and with both off the head simply stays put. After that, a physical obstruction or something lodged in the gimbal is the usual culprit — the motor is small and easily stalled.

Enable Pan Scan or Motion Tracking to confirm the motor responds, gently free the head if it's jammed, and run the pan/tilt calibration. A restart plus current firmware clears most software hangs; if the motor grinds but nothing turns, debris in the gimbal or a failing motor is likely.

Symptoms

  • Pan v2 will not pan, tilt, or track
  • Head does not move at all
  • Manual pan controls do nothing
  • Motor grinds but no movement
  • No response to Pan Scan
  • Tracking toggle on but head fixed
  • Stopped moving after an update
  • Movement only on power-up

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.

Common Causes

  • Pan Scan and Motion Tracking both disabled
  • Head physically obstructed or jammed
  • Motor calibration lost
  • Firmware glitch after an update
  • Insufficient power for the motor
  • Something lodged in the gimbal
  • App controls not registering (connection)
  • Camera needs a restart

Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.

Warning

Security cameras should be installed at least 8 feet high to prevent tampering. Check local laws regarding recording audio and video. Never aim cameras at neighboring private property. Outdoor cameras should be rated IP65 or higher for weather resistance.

Step-by-Step Solution

1

Check if Pan Scan is enabled

The Wyze Cam Pan v2 only pans automatically when Pan Scan is enabled. In the Wyze app, go to camera settings and toggle Pan Scan on. When enabled, the camera cycles between saved waypoints automatically. If Pan Scan is off, the camera stays in one position and only moves when you manually swipe in the app or when motion tracking directs it.

2

Verify waypoints are set

Pan Scan needs at least two waypoints to cycle between. In camera settings, go to Pan Scan Settings and check the waypoint list. If no waypoints are saved, the camera has nowhere to pan to. Set up 3-4 waypoints covering different areas of the room. The camera cycles through them at a configurable interval (default is about 10 seconds per position).

3

Check if the motor is physically stuck

If Pan Scan is enabled and waypoints are set but the camera does not move, the motor may be stuck. Gently try to rotate the camera body by hand (with power off) to check if the mechanism is free. If it resists or makes grinding sounds, debris may be lodged in the rotation mechanism. Blow compressed air into the base. If the motor is completely seized, the gear mechanism has failed.

4

Power cycle the camera

Unplug the Wyze Cam Pan v2 for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. The camera should perform a calibration rotation on boot — panning to its home position and then to each waypoint. If it does not move during boot, the motor is not receiving power or the motor controller has failed. If it moves during boot but not during Pan Scan, the issue is software. Try re-enabling Pan Scan and resaving waypoints.

5

Update firmware and factory reset if needed

Check for firmware updates in the Wyze app. Older firmware had a bug where Pan Scan would stop working after several days of continuous operation. If updating does not help, try a factory reset — press and hold the setup button on the camera bottom for 20 seconds. You will need to re-add the camera to the app and reconfigure all settings including waypoints.

Quick Solutions

Enable Pan Scan or Motion Tracking in settings
Clear any obstruction and free the head gently
Run pan/tilt calibration
Restart the camera and update firmware
Use a solid power adapter for the motor
Check the gimbal for debris
Confirm a stable connection so controls register
Factory reset if the motor still will not move

Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.

If this comes back after following these steps, check whether a recent app or firmware update reset a default setting — the fix works, but the setting gets reverted silently.

Pro Tip

Set up activity zones to monitor only the areas that matter like your front porch and driveway and exclude the street. This dramatically reduces false alerts while ensuring you never miss an actual event at your property.

Real-World Insight

This issue almost always looks more complex than it is — the majority of cases trace back to a single setting, a stale credential, or a default that shipped wrong.
