- All Caseta devices uncontrollable from app
- Schedules and automations stop running
- Alexa and Google lose Lutron devices
- Bridge LEDs are off or blinking red

Recognize these? Here's what usually causes it.
Common Causes
- Ethernet cable disconnected or damaged
- Router DHCP lease expired
- Power adapter failed
- Router firewall blocking bridge
- Bridge firmware corrupted after power outage
- Internet outage affecting cloud connection
Most fixes happen in the first 3 steps.
A factory reset erases all device pairings and scenes. Only do this as a last resort. Write down your current setup before resetting so you can recreate it.
Tools & Requirements
Step-by-Step Solution
Check Physical Connections
Verify the Ethernet cable is firmly plugged into both the bridge and your router. Try a different Ethernet port on the router. Check that the power adapter is connected and the outlet has power. The bridge should have at least one LED lit when powered on.
Restart Bridge and Router
Unplug the Smart Bridge. Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds. Once the router is fully back online plug the bridge back in. Wait 2 minutes for the bridge to boot and connect. Check the app for online status.
Try a New Ethernet Cable
Ethernet cables can fail internally without visible damage. Replace the cable between the bridge and router with a known working cable. Cat5e or Cat6 cables work fine. After connecting wait 60 seconds and check bridge status.
Check Router Settings
Ensure your router has DHCP enabled so it assigns an IP address to the bridge automatically. Check if any MAC address filtering is blocking the bridge. The bridge needs outbound internet access on standard ports to reach Lutron cloud services.
Factory Reset the Bridge
If nothing else works use a paperclip to press the reset button on the bottom of the bridge. Hold for 10 seconds until LEDs flash. The bridge will reset to factory defaults. You will need to set up all devices again in the Lutron app from scratch.
Quick Solutions
Still having issues? This is usually the deeper cause below.
This usually happens right after a router reboot or ISP change — the device rejoins the network but drops its cloud session silently.
Consider setting a static IP or DHCP reservation for your Smart Bridge in your router settings to prevent IP conflicts.
Most WiFi drop-offs happen right after a router reboot or ISP swap — the device reconnects to the network but silently loses its cloud registration.
